I’m not a huge football fan but I actually watched the whole Super Bowl this year. In previous years, I would pay no attention to the game and only half watch the commercials but there were a lot of really good commercials this year. I did enjoy most of the commercials but I think it’s ridiculous that they cost so much. This year the commercials cost about $2.6 million!
Some of my favorites were the Coke commercial, the E*Trade commercial and Doritos have a few that were good. I’m kinda bias about the Coke commercial because that’s where my mom works but this years commercial was amazing. It’s about a guy sleepwalking through the Safari to get a Coke. This commercial is very visually appealing and it stood out because not a lot of commercials are shot in the Safari. I also liked the “Other Girlfriend” commercial by E*Trade. “A Milkawhat?” it’s hilarious. Who doesn’t like the E*Trade babies? Doritos had a lot of commercials this year but my favorite was the one with the little boy. His mom is going on a date and he tells the guy, “Keep your hands off my momma, keep your hands off my Doritos.”
A commercial that I didn’t like was the Flo TV commercial about “the spineless man.” This commercials target audience was obviously guys but I still think it’s sexist. I also didn’t like the Taco Bell commercial with Charles Barkley. He looks stiff and awkward and everything else behind him is random. I also don’t like the song.
I absolutely love football so you can imagine that I usually never miss a second of the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, this year I wasn’t able to catch the game. I have heard a lot of people say they enjoy the E*Trade commercial. I finally got the chance to watch it a couple of days ago and I agree. The commercial is hilarious. The amount of money organizations spend on commercials for the game is amazing to me. I understand why they would spend it though. An organization with the ability to have a commercial prepared and aired during the game opens its doors to a very large amount of potential customers. It’s expensive but the payoff could be great!

I can’t believe it cost so much to have a commercial during the Super Bowl either, and it was crazy to me that they had some in the middle of the game during a huddle. It is interesting to think that they pay for the half time ones when a lot of the people I know, as well as myself got up to do stuff during the half time so that they wouldn’t miss the game. I loved the E*Trade one to, it still makes me laugh every time I see it. I did think that some of the commercials didn’t really make sense though, and it was hard to tell what they were for until the end.

Hello, Olivia!
Interesting post about the Super Bowl commercials this year – because I also hated that Taco Bell ad starring Mr. Barkley and that horrid song, lol. Like you, I also chose the Doritos commercial as one of my fav’s!
But the reason I am really commenting is because I’d like to share something I found hilarious about the E-Trade commercial! I think that’s a great commercial! But guess who didn’t find it so great??? LINDSAY LOHAN! She attempted to sue E-Trade for the commercial because she apparently thought that they were taking a shot at her reputation as an alcoholic (milk-a-holic) and a “boyfriend-stealer,” I suppose. Get this, she tried to sue them for $100 MILLION! She stated that it was a parody of her. Her lawyer even went so far as to say that they were using her famous name “Lindsay” as the baby’s name in the commercial for their own personal gain, abusing her rep. E-Trade’s defense was that they randomly chose a name of an E-Trade employee.
Lohan lost.
Lol.

I really enjoy watching the super bowl ads but this year they really didn’t seem that great. I few of the ones you posted above were my favorite though!

I love the e-trade commercial. I think the baby campaign is a great way to communicate a few different messages in a creative way. But, I can’t believe how Lindsay Lohan reacted, and I think the majority of the public can’t either. On the positive side, a lot of people heard about the lawsuit and then they looked it up, or it was covered by various new’s outlet and the commercial was shown. This coverage brought a lot of publicity to the commercial. Honestly, I think Lindsay Lohan should really just bow out with any amount of grace that is left.

I loved the Doritos and E*Trade baby commercials too! They were by far my two favorites. I also am with you on how a lot of the commercials were targeted to men. It is sexist, but then I have to keep in mind that most people who are watching the Superbowl are men. I am not saying that women don’t, because I am one of the biggest football fans that you will meet, but it just makes sense to target more to the male crowd. However, they can keep it a little more classy if you ask me!
